Sapele Architrave
Sapele is often a darker red/brown toned wood, normally has a wavy or interlocked grain with a fine texture. Some knots and blemishes are present giving this hardwood character. It is a medium strength piece of wood and works well with both machine and hand tools. It does have a tolerable blunt effect on the cutting edge. It can be finished with oil, lacquer, staining, or varnish. Perfect for windows, doors, skirtings, architraves, mouldings and specialist joinery. For internal and external use.
DIMENSIONS MANUAL
Ordering architraves can be quite baffling when you have to try to envisage what it will look like from a web page! We have put together this ‘manual’ to help you get to grips with the measurements you require and how to order accurately.
Explanation
All architraves have 3 dimensions that you will need to specify: height, depth and length. You will also need to choose a profile, which is the part of the board that is shaped for decorative purposes.
Dimensions
Height: this is how wide you want the architrave
Depth: this is how thick the architrave is coming away from your wall/door frame
Length: this will depend on the height and width of your door frame
Profile: a style that is chosen for your desired appearance
Please note that we can send samples out for you to look at before placing an order. If you need to match architraves to previous ones, please give us a call!

UNPRIMED (NO FINISH)
If you choose your product to come unprimed, it will come to you as the raw product ready for you to finish as you require.
PRIMED
If you choose your product to be primed, it will come to you following our priming process which consists of:
- A first coat of primer is applied by spray to the product, which then must dry.
- It is then sanded down to entail a smooth finish and is then given another coat.
- The product is sanded for the last time and is quality checked by our QA manager.
GLOSS
If you choose your product to be glossed, it will come to you with a glazed finish ready to use. Gloss is recommended in busy thoroughfares as it can be cleaned easily and will maintain its gleam for longer. The process consists of:
- The product is primed as listed above, following all 3 steps.
- A coat of gloss is then applied and is left to dry.
- Quality checked by our QA manager.
SATIN
If you choose your product to have a Satin finish, it will come to you with a smooth sheen coating ready to use. Satin is also recommended in medium/busy thoroughfares as it can be cleaned easily and will maintain its shine for longer. The process consists of:
- The product is primed as listed above, following all 3 steps.
- A coat of Satin lacquer/paint is then applied and is left to dry.
- Quality checked by our QA manager.
EGGSHELL
If you choose your product to have an eggshell finish, it will come to you with a 10-25% low sheen ready to use. Eggshell is more durable and easier to clean than flat finishes. The process consists of:
- The product is primed as listed above, following all 3 steps.
- A coat of Eggshell lacquer/paint is then applied and is left to dry.
- Quality checked by our QA manager.
OIL
If you choose your product to have an oil finish, it will come richer in colour with a brighter finish. Oil isn’t the most durable so wouldn’t want to be used in busy areas or on a table/work surface, which requires more cleaning. The process consists of:
- The product is enriched with oil by hand, and then left to seep in.
- It is then lightly sanded to fill in any pores with the oil and wood dust to create a smoother finish.
- Quality checked by our QA manager.
CLEAR LACQUER
If you choose your product to have a clear lacquer finish, it will come with a hard coating with a 30% sheen. This surface is very durable, perfect for lots of use. The process consists of:
- The product is sanded ready for polishing.
- It is wiped down and 2 coats of lacquer is applied.
- Then, it is lightly sanded, which breaks down the grain for a smooth finish.
- A further coat of lacquer is applied to seal and create the hard top.
- Quality checked by our QA manager.
